Introducing Akaaro: Trained in fashion and textile from National Institute of Fashion Technology and Chelsea College of Art & Design London, Gaurav Jai Gupta’s passion for textile and experimental approach found fruition in Akaaro in 2010. With a noteworthy debut at Wills India Fashion Week, he was unanimously dubbed as the ‘Find of the Week’. He is also the winner of ELLE’s ‘Young Creative Fashion Entrepreneur Awards’, ‘Innovation Award’ at the Grazia Young Fashion Awards and ‘Designer of the Year’ at the International Apparel Federation Award in Mexico. Gaurav Jai Gupta is the only fashion designer to have a solo cover in India Today Magazine for October 2016.
Why we love Akaaro: Akaaro has its origin in a Sanskrit word, which means the letter ‘a’. With a focus on reviving the appreciation and desire for contemporary Indian handwoven textiles, Akaaro experiments with Indian textile to create an expression of relevance in an ecosystem that is vast, varied, and global yet individualistic, contemporary and nuanced. Being a conceptual brand, born from balance, rooted yet ever-changing, Akaaro fits into every wardrobe to explore and express the inner depths, personal story and life’s journey of its wearer.
I want to elevate Indian textiles, expand the horizon of what it could also be other than what it already is.
